Lets talks about how to handle the challenges we each face as resellers, but first lets start with a story to put things in perspective.
Once a little boy was playing outdoors and found a fascinating caterpillar. He carefully picked it up and took it home to show his mother. He asked his mother if he could keep it, and she said he could if he would take good care of it.
The little boy got a large jar from his mother and put plants to eat, and a stick to climb on, in the jar. Every day he watched the caterpillar and brought it new plants to eat.
One day the caterpillar climbed up the stick and started acting strangely. The boy worriedly called his mother who came and understood that the caterpillar was creating a cocoon. The mother explained to the boy how the caterpillar was going to go through a metamorphosis and become a butterfly.
The little boy was thrilled to hear about the changes his caterpillar would go through. He watched every day, waiting for the butterfly to emerge. One day it happened, a small hole appeared in the cocoon and the butterfly started to struggle to come out.
At first the boy was excited, but soon he became concerned. The butterfly was struggling so hard to get out! It looked like it couldn’t break free! It looked desperate! It looked like it was making no progress!
The boy was so concerned he decided to help. He ran to get scissors and snipped the cocoon to make the hole bigger and the butterfly quickly emerged!
As the butterfly came out the boy was surprised. It had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings. He continued to watch the butterfly expecting that, at any moment, the wings would dry out, enlarge and expand to support the swollen body. He knew that in time the body would shrink and the butterfly’s wings would expand.
But neither happened!
The butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings.
It was never able to fly…
As the boy tried to figure out what had gone wrong his mother took him to talk to a scientist from a local college. He learned that the butterfly was SUPPOSED to struggle. In fact, the butterfly’s struggle to push its way through the tiny opening of the cocoon pushes the fluid out of its body and into its wings. Without the struggle, the butterfly would never, ever fly. The boy’s good intentions hurt the butterfly.

Like the butterfly, we need our challenges and obstacles to make us stronger. I often find myself wishing things were easier for me.
Wishing I didn’t have to work ten hour shifts on my feet every weekend that leave me completely wiped out.
Wishing I didn’t suffer from horrible migraines that leave me an anxious hot mess for a few days following the attack.
Wishing that business in general wasn’t such a difficult thing.
The truth is, while these things are hard they make us strong. And in this life, you have to be strong or life will grind you into dust.
I utilize a few strategies to help me manage the overwhelming whirlwind that is business and life.
One: Incorporate regular physical activity.
Now, when you’re busy grinding away at your work, you may think you don’t have time to exercise. I would encourage you to MAKE TIME.
If you look at majority of the really successful people…one thing they have in common is that they exercise. Ever heard the saying “Manage your energy not your time?”
I love this saying because honestly I could have all the time in the world to get a task done but if I have no energy to complete the task then I will waste the time I have.
Two: Find a supportive community of like minded entrepreneurs.
As you grow your reselling business, it is going to become even more important that you surround yourself with people who encourage you as you face challenges.
Stay away from people who constantly complain that the sky is falling. They are a drain on your mental and emotional resources.
Not sure how to find other positive and encouraging resellers? I would say start with Instagram. Search the hashtag #poshmarkcommunity or #poshmarkreseller and then go through that hashtag and look for people who share encouraging and uplifting messages.
A word of caution though, don’t assume just because someone has a lot of followers that they are a positive influence on you. I have had to unfollow SEVERAL popular resellers because they are president of the “Ain’t it awful” club.
Three: Make sure you are taking at least one day off each week, or at least a half a day off.
Now, lets be real for a second, I can’t take an entire day off. I’m an overachiever who enjoys working.
However, each Wednesday morning I force myself to put work aside and go do some non work related things to help me re-energize myself.
I go to Starbucks with my journal, my planner, and a legal pad.
I drink my coffee, write in my journal, and then rewrite my goals for the month. This helps me refocus and reset my mind for the upcoming week.
Now, believe it or not, I also go thrifting on my day off. Thrifting is the one part of reselling that doesn’t feel like work to me. I enjoy hunting through rows and rows of clothing and feeling like I’m hunting for buried treasure.
So, I do allow thrifting to be a part of my day off but only because it re energizes me.
My friend, we have a long road ahead of us as we build these businesses that could eventually allow us to work for ourselves full time.
We each possess our own unique box of challenges, but I hope some of these strategies will help you.
